Much prepping and some priming and even some painting is in the works for our kitchen renovation. But yesterday the old 1950s kitchen countertop was removed.
Today the new custom built hickory countertop was installed. I made that countertop from pristine hickory flooring "scrap" that was being discarded. Go figure.
I'm pleased with outcome. So is my wife. Now ... the saga continues with the completion of the cabinets, the walls and then the floor. I'll keep you posted!

thats beautiful!!!
Fantastic! I love the counter top!
Wow! sweet looking counter top! Its a shame to waste hickory. Glad you were able to salvage it. ( or at least have enough to finish the job!) Are you going to carve the cupboard doors! or leave them plain?
looks awesome
Thanks everyone. It's hard to believe that this wood was being thrown out and I'm glad I was able to use it! It's surprisingly tough and dense wood, so cutting nicely it was a challenge and it made a lot dust. I actually did a lot of the work - old school - with hand tools.
And The Great Ethan Allen - any detailing to the doors belongs to Rosa (my wife). So, I can't really say!
Have a great day everyone!
